We are seeking a postdoc!
|
We will be hiring a postdoc to work on an exciting project funded by the Foundation for Food and Agricultural Research (FFAR), examining how calcium amendments affect soil organic matter cycling. The position is for 24 months, with an expected start in Spring/Summer of 2024.
The candidate will perform research in the lab, greenhouse, and field, and will leverage stable isotope tracing techniques, spectroscopy and micro-spectroscopy, and microbiome analysis, to study the effects of calcium-containing minerals on soil organic matter dynamics and soil health. Opportunities to collaborate with colleagues at Purdue University, Cornell University, and University of Connecticut are available, as well as working with synchrotron and NanoSIMS facilities. Please contact me if you have any further questions. |
We are seeking undergraduate/seasonal workers!
|
We will be hiring two (2) seasonal assistants to work on a project funded by a Specialty Crops Block Grant, evaluating the use of compost to improve soil water storage characteristics and decrease plant drought stress. This is an exciting opportunity to learn multiple skills while working in an interdisciplinary project combining vegetable production techniques, soil biogeochemistry, and plant stress physiology. The position is for 16 weeks with an expected start time in May-June 2024. Salary is $15.69/hour (without benefits or vacation time) for 35 hours/week (typically 8:30 am - 4:30 pm but may vary).
The position includes work both in the field and laboratory. Laboratory work may include soil and plant sample preparation (drying, grinding, weighing), using microplate readers to analyze plant nutrients, and generating soil water retention curves, and evaluating crop quality. Field work may include assisting in setting up and maintaining experimental plots, vegetable picking, and weekly measurements of plant drought stress indicators and soil respiration. All relevant training will be provided. Please contact me if you have any further questions. We are seeking a full-time lab manager/technician!

Prospective postdocs |
I am always interested to hear from postdocs who wish to join the lab!
Vacant positions affiliated with funded projects will be announced as they become available. However, I also encourage postdocs to explore funding options via external fellowships, such as NSF Postdoctoral Fellowships, and USDA AFRI NIFA Postdoctoral Fellowships. Please contact me with ideas and we can discuss further options. |
Internships and research for credit |
I can host a limited number of motivated undergraduate students each semester to do internships or work on independent research projects. Depending on experience level and duration of project, students can either help design a small project related to our research interests, or be assigned one. I have previously worked with students from local institutions (e.g., University of New Haven, SCSU) and with the Plant Health Fellow program. Please contact me if you are interested!
